Contudo definir um sistema de refer&amp;#234;ncia n&amp;#227;o &amp;#233; trivial, est&amp;#225; diretamente relacionado com os conceitos de relatividade do movimento e de referenciais de in&amp;#233;rcia.
O ensino livresco deste assunto &amp;#233; limitado devido &amp;#224; falta de experi&amp;#234;ncias acess&amp;#237;veis e inspiradoras.
Os alunos est&amp;#227;o familiarizados com o uso de aparelhos de GPS mas n&amp;#227;o compreendem como s&amp;#227;o estabelecidos os referenciais. Esta atividade tem como objetivo fornecer uma experi&amp;#234;ncia de inicia&amp;#231;&amp;#227;o, para preencher essas lacunas, baseada na corrente de estrelas do Cintur&amp;#227;o de Gould. Est&amp;#225; tamb&amp;#233;m relacionada com a Ci&amp;#234;ncia a ser desenvolvida pela miss&amp;#227;o GAIA da Ag&amp;#234;ncia Espacial Europeia.
