A verdadeira raz&amp;#227;o para as fases da Lua depende de dois fatores: a Lua ser redonda e o &amp;#226;ngulo que faz com a Terra e o Sol mudar ao longo de sua &amp;#243;rbita. Galileo Galilei foi o primeiro a observar as diferentes texturas da Lua atrav&amp;#233;s de um telesc&amp;#243;pio. 
Com esta atividade pretende-se montar fotos da Lua, em diferentes fases, usando um mosaico de observa&amp;#231;&amp;#245;es lunares feitas pelo telesc&amp;#243;pio de Liverpool. Cada uma das imagens de um mosaico requer entre 60 e 100 observa&amp;#231;&amp;#245;es a partir do telesc&amp;#243;pio. Estas foram posteriormente combinadas digitalmente e em seguida, divididas num n&amp;#250;mero de imagens JPEG que pode ser impresso e usado para reconstruir novamente as imagens tal como um puzzle.
